As water from Thailand’s worse flood in half a century torn and bore down on to the metropolis, politicians and officials changed their tactics. Rather than resist the onslaught of nature, it seems people are doing their best to minimize the damage to lives and property.
As I am sure the relief aid agencies, both local and international, are working to evacuate residents from the apartments and bungalows, protect the business districts, shopping malls and small shops. I worry about the people living in the slums, located in an organised fashion (compared to Bangalore or Jakarta) almost neatly behind and next to buildings, or facing the canals. I do worry for those who do not have the means or capacity to protect their homes and their families. I also worry about the homeless, the hiding refugee, the wandering streetkid, and the marginalized groups.
I’m doing what I can to create awareness in my country of the plights of the people living in Thailand. Unfortunately Some Malaysians are somewhat distracted with their daily dose of politics, gossip, sex scandals and whatever shit they like to do in the spare time.
Anyway, going back to the topic of my concerns. I do hope that in the efforts to provide aid and evacuation, the agencies and society will not forget about the poor, the helpless and those living on the streets.
