The heat wave is stifling hot in Malaysia. My friends in Thailand report the same, though the humidity here is crushing – suffocating which drains the energy and leaves one hallow. My journey took me to a plantation, some 17 kilometers from a small town called Bagan Lalang. The palm oil plantation was almost in the middle of nowhere, the weather was terrible. Surrounded by tall trees and ferns, I walked with my young guide, armed with a backpack and[...]

For the past one week, I have been thinking about my future, in a strikingly unconventional manner. My current income-less profession is at an end in my country, and I am almost on the verge of laying waste to my plans for local employment in social work. Many times I tell people that my profession is somewhat extinct, and social workers (cum natural-disaster relief workers) like myself are fossilized or in “the process” of being a pitiful relic ~ on a good[...]

This wild creatures hunting means something, especially the schism among groups in Thailand.   การล่าที่เห็นอาจเทียบกับความแตกแยกที่เกิดขึ้นในสังคมไทย และความสามัคคีที่ทำให้เกิดพลังได้อย่างน่าประหลาด MouiI’m not Geek, just a Thai internet addicted gal. Life is similar to a plateful of chips, when you are enjoying the food you will realize that it is never enough. Well, many things we value in life is limited, or at times just inaccessible. Should we not detach ourselves from materialism? Realistically no, as there are too many things that we need in order to continue our way of life, especially when there are others that depend on us for nourishment and basic needs. I live my life the best[...]

I’m taking a walk, far from the source of sanity, making my way through the long wet road. It has been a tiring day of recovery, I have been ill since yesterday. I didn’t expect the Storm to shield the sun for the whole day, but thankfully it did. Now as it approaches midnight, the wind beats upon my body, shrouded by a welcoming chill. A far cry from those torturous humid days. I think about too many issues affecting[...]

Night stroll. One of my favourites. A travel sensation, usually accompanied by fresh air and away from the bustling chaos of the traffic. I do love walking, feeling the adrenaline flowing through my body, sweat drenched and the taunts of my muscles pulling beyond endurance. Don’t see it as exercise, I am just a person who cannot sit still. Tonight, away from Kuala Lumpur, I travelled to a dodgy part of Klang Valley. Not as sinister as the darkest corner[...]

While the builders in Bangkok were raising mountain-like buildings and marvel monstrosity, a different type of architecture was evolving, clustered and confined in the midst of a bustling city. Its massive labyrinthine walls sprawled over many acres and embraced whole communities of slum residents. I bowed to it’s majestic twist of hardship and poverty.     AnarchyThe meltdown of emotions. Bangkok is a contradiction of social hierarchy, where the poor, the working class and the elites, toiling away in the heat, embracing luxury or merely doing nothing extraordinary. Hunger, homelessness and poverty exist, though I don’t see much improvement to the status quo, merely a compliance to the movement of society’s ignorance. AnarchyThe meltdown of emotions. By a combination of intense thinking and mystic concentration, some people enabled their minds to roam with rarely attainable freedom, sometimes so successfully that they came upon fresh and valuable insights. When they did reach new theories and perceptions about the meaning of life and death, they were eager to share their discoveries with others. Many then left their hill retreats and wandered through the countryside, the cities, preaching to all who would listen. In this day and age, we[...]

What is natural beauty? What makes women stand above those mired in civilised fashion-worship? Certainly beauty is the ability to bend the cosmos to serve your will, but even a half-baked carpenter can force wood to serve her needs. Certainly natural beauty is the power to do what others cannot but any coffee-licking rich brat in a thin bright dress can do more than this. It is the command of the ineffable, of the simplicity and of the ingredients of[...]
