Maids from Myanmar, Employers from Hell

Blog Human Rights

The Malaysian government is considering bringing domestic workers from Myanmar to overcome severe shortage of foreign maids following a 2-year freeze imposed by Indonesia. Indonesia had her reasons on the freeze, mainly on increasing issues of abuse and poor working conditions in Malaysia. Such is life in this country!

I am extremely concerned about the outrageous mentality of some Malaysian employers and their attitudes towards foreign maids, camouflaged-slavery and abuse (many have said that they are merely “disciplining” their maids, Oh bloody hell RUBBISH!). There have been cases of sending maids back home to Cambodia and Indonesia in body bags due to violent acts in order to “disciple” their maids. The murderers are punished, yes, but we all know how punishment and the rule of law affects Malaysians » and the fact does not change that lives are extinguished.

There are no visible indicators from the Malaysian government to protect the rights and needs of migrant workers. Thus, why the hell are we looking at other countries to import women for servitude? Seems to me, this is merely a legitimate process of slavery, a perverted version of human trafficking stimulated by the Institutions and by a very arrogant society. I am saddened that Malaysia is moving towards a developed-status nation, but still nurturing a third-world barbaric mentality.
