Ah, Bangkok traffic. The epitome of road madness, the profanity of impatience and poor driving skills. Interestingly enough, Bangkok drivers are different from their counterparts in Bangalore, Jakarta and Kuala Lumpur. Drivers in these cities are more prone to disabling your senses with the never-ending honks; I’ve experienced severe doses of honks from barbaric drivers to know that despite the chaos of Bangkok roads, Bangkok is still better to the ears. The concrete jungle and labyrinths of Bangkok are proven testimony of a civilisation that swiftly seeks modernisation, piling the society to the point of suffocation. I can’t get enough of the legions of street vendors. The spirit of entrepreneurship (and hardship) is high among the working class and the poor. Bangkok is nothing without them, merely a shell of a city, devoid of life. AnarchyThe meltdown of emotions. The dysfunctional anti-hero of all time. A traveler seeking the ultimate emotional[...]

Bangkok is a contradiction of social hierarchy, where the poor, the working class and the elites, toiling away in the heat, embracing luxury or merely doing nothing extraordinary. Hunger, homelessness and poverty exist, though I don’t see much improvement to the status quo, merely a compliance to the movement of society’s ignorance. AnarchyThe meltdown of emotions. When I was doing my relief work in a partially flooded-Bangkok, I met a homeless elderly woman sitting on a bench at 4:17 am. Her two heavy sacks was filled with dirty clothes, her face was masked with pure exhaustion, and she fiddled with an empty bottle. I offered her my flask, but she graciously declined with a smile, and in English, said she had to walk the path Fate had set for her. Within her eyes burned a desire[...]

As water from Thailand’s worse flood in half a century torn and bore down on to the metropolis, politicians and officials changed their tactics. Rather than resist the onslaught of nature, it seems people are doing their best to minimize the damage to lives and property. AnarchyThe meltdown of emotions. ICT consultant, Poomjit or fondly called by her nickname – Moui, lectured me on the behaviors of fellow Thais when it comes to their fascination and obsession of social media. Me being a Malaysian social activist possessing little knowledge of Thailand, I was stunned as she quickly and passionately explained the psyche of Thais and their love for anything that resembles a tablet, BlackBerry and iPhone. As if to prove a point, days later she took me to meet her[...]

Its been a long time since I last wrote. Been extremely busy, travelling. The adventures were too tempting to resist. So what the heck, I left my country and flew to Bangkok. “12-year-old Nuch (not her real name) lives with her mother Dao, stepfather and five siblings in a single room hut in a small slum settlement near the flower market in Bangkok. She used to go out begging in Bangkok’s commercial district but her mother decided to find another way to earn a living. Now, Dao goes to the market early each morning to buy flowers. She uses these to make garlands, which Nuch and her siblings sell to tourists and[...]
